Nepal quake deaths climb to 3,400. First Israelis evacuated

Nepalese authorities reported the death toll from the earthquake disaster had climbed Monday to 3,400 with more than 4,500 people still missing – most in the region of the capital, Kathmandu, but some also on the Everest slopes. Around 120 Israelis, mostly mountain trekkers, are still unaccounted for. Two El Al transports are standing by for the damaged airport to be repaired to bring in 95 tons of humanitarian aid, including food, medicines, a fully-equipped field hospital, doctors, nurses, ex-ray and lab equipment and an intensive care unit. More than 260 officers and soldiers of the Homeland Command’s rescue unit and Medical Corps are on board. The first small group of Israelis was evacuated from the stricken area overnight.
