Netanyahu defends his Gaza ceasefire decision against wide protest

A leader must heed popular opinion, but, at times, it is incumbent on him to take unpopular decisions,, especially when the fate of national security is at stake, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said, in his first comment on the security cabinet decision of Tuesday to accept a ceasefire after nearly 500 rockets fired into Israel. This decision evoked a wide outcry in the country and was criticized by political figures from right to left. Netanyahu explained: “Such decisions are taken with our security chiefs on the strength of a wide perspective and information that must remain hidden from the enemy. This information cannot be shared with the public, even the strong and brave citizens of the south.” The prime minister went on to say: “Our enemies pleaded for a ceasefire.  We’ll settle accounts at the right time.” He spoke at a ceremony honoring Israel’s first prime minister David Ben Gurion at Kibbutz Sde Boker.

Right decision for a change. He did not want rockets hitting airports, making all flights uninsurable, thereby isolating is real.

I agree with Mike, at this time it is the right decision not to go to war with Hamas but if there is no complete calm at the border the IDF must be given a free hand to defend the Citizens of Israel and bomb meaningful targets in Gaza. The reality is that the threat from the North is more urgent since the UN and the International Community Including Israel, allowed Hezbollah, a terrorist proxy of Iran, to rearm with thousands of missiles that could hit the populated cities. This is where Israel needs to act and eliminate the threat.

I want to know who’s really pulling these leaders strings and who’s really in charge? People like Netanyahu and Trump are simple figureheads. They come into office as mavericks then in just a few short months are week impotent spineless creatures afraid of their own shadow. It became evident after Kennedys assasination that other entities are really in charge and if you don’t like it as a leader then you die. The absolutely rediculous and absurd descisions these leaders make – no sane person would do or say. Yet the public still march to the pipers pipe and believes we have a thriving democracy. BS

Israeli people have to get use to the situation when Israel will not be able to fight the wars with Hamas and specially with Hezbollah as they have the rockets capable to hit the target with precision to 10 m. Israeli people are bombarded by propaganda of Israel powers Israel no longer have and it is loosing advantages every day as enemy is more and more sophisticated by days. Government can not explain to people that Hezbollah can attack nuclear facilities with dire consequences, because next days all yang people will go to Berlin for ever.

Jarak- please go lighter with the Qat! Israel chooses to honor the Commandment “Thou Shall Not Kill” Innocent People in a War that would be over in minutes. Two bombs could wipe out Hamas and Hezbollah. The US used just 2 bombs to end WWII!

Hit Hamas and Hizbolla hard and take them both by surprise.
A ceasefire is a good start to completely remove hamas.
But do it with all the might of the IDF dont talk act!

War against an implacable should not be waged when the enemy wants it. Gasa is not a prority. Judea and Samaria is Israel not Gasa. Hamas and Arabs want Gasa to be occupied so that to Israel has 2 million slime Arabs more. They go to extraordinary provocations to do it. Is it not obvious? The real enemy is PA because it occupies real Israel. The real danger also comes from the North. This is where the war is inevitable and the whole power of IDF should be invested. A small bloody encounter that would cost a few hundred lives of our boys to satisfy the concerns of a few thousand kibutzniks in the South? Where they had been when thousands of Israelis were expelled from Gasa? Israel cannot behave reacting to any provocation. Netanyahu is a great leader who sees the global picture and unfortunately all other Israeli politicians are provincial Petah Tikva scale shtetl guys. May be Shaked and Bennet are the exceptions. Their time will come. But Israeli average politician is a mediocre guy. Israel has become a world power, but the Israeli elite? Dramatically mediocre layer of incredibly talented Jewish population of Israel.
