Netanyahu: Iran must be fought as “world’s leading terrorism sponsor”
“Iran initiated, planned and carried out the terrible attacks [in Argentina] through its proxy, Hizballah,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday in Buenos Aires. Calling Iran the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism, he said Israel was determined to fight it and prevent Iranian terrorism from establishing itself on Israel's border.
Netanyahu was speaking at memorial ceremonies at the Jewish Community center, which was ravaged in 1982 by an explosion that killed 85 people, and the Israeli embassy, which was never rebuilt after a blast that killed 29 people including four diplomats in 1994. “The time has come to impose full and complete responsibility on Iran,” he said, after Iran’s role in these outrages had been whitewashed for decades. Netanyahu thanked President Mauricio for reopening the investigation into the attacks.
Local media reported that during the visit, the Argentine president had authorized the transfer to Israel of thousands of documents covering the asylum granted to fleeing Nazis after WWWII by President Peron.
