Netanyahu: Israel would have to act to secure Syrian arsenal
If the Syrian regime collapsed without change, enabling Hizballah or al Qaeda to raid the Syrian arsenal for chemical weapons or missiles, Israel would have to act, said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Sunday. Preventing them falling into the wrong hands is key to Israeli security. Asked if Israel would act alone, Netanyahu said Syria’s stockpile was a common concern.
Defense Minister Ehud Brak said he had ordered the Israeli military to prepare for a possible attack on Syria’s weapons arsenal. “Israel cannot accept the transfer of advanced weapons from Syria to Lebanon.”
