Netanyahu saw Jason Greenblatt before flying to Moscow to meet Putin
The Palestinian issue as well as Iran and Syria may figure in prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday. This was indicated by his last-minute conversation with US peace envoy Jason Greenblatt. DEBKAfile also reports Netanyahu changed the makeup of the party traveling with him. He replaced the Mossad chief Yossi Cohen with the head of Military Intelligence (AMAN) Maj. Gen. Hertzi Halevy. This was a sign that Netanyahu placed the strongest emphasis in his talks with Putin on Iran’s future plans for Syria, including Hizballah and the various imported Shiite militias some of them from Iraq, which operate under the command of Al Qods chief, Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Gen. Halevi is along to brief the Russian president on those plans and fill any information gaps with updates on what the Iranians are up to in Syria. Even the slightest detail could change the picture.
Greenblatt arrived at his meeting with the prime minister after a day spent with IDF units positioned on the Gaza border. He was also shown one of the recently discovered Palestinian terror tunnels.
