Netanyahu scores high vs Saar in Likud primary

PM Binyamin Netanyahu scored even higher than expected in the Likud primary on Thursday against his challenger Gideon Saar – according to partial results. “A huge victory,” he declared. “Thank you, Likud for your trust, support and love. With the help of God, I will lead the Likud to a big victory in the upcoming elections and lead the state to unprecedented achievements.”
In Ashkelon, where the PM’s campaign speech was interrupted by a Palestinian rocket, he won 78pc; Sderot – 88pc, Jerusalem – 79pc and Rishon Letzion – 72pc. Altogether 48.6pc of Likud’s 116.000 registered voters turned out in stormy, rainy weather. The final count is expected early Friday.
