Netanyahu: Tough emergency measures to stem terror

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Friday a series of measures for combating the current surge of Palestinian terrorist attacks on Israelis. They include increasing demolitions of terrorist homes, more administrative detentions, expanding the number of security forces in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and closing the city and Temple Mount to agitators inciting violence, so that Israelis and tourists may move about in safety. These measures were decided at an emergency meting of security chiefs Sunday, headed by the prime minister, and will be brought before the security government for approval at the end of the Simhat Torah festival Monday night. Netanyahu faces rising criticism from members of his coalition government and his own Likud party. They say his lax approach to Palestinian violence in recent months produced the current crisis.
