Netanyahu trial opens two weeks after Israel’s election
The date for Binyamin Netanyahu’s trial for bribery, breach of faith and fraud has been set for March 17, 15 days after Israel’s general election, which his Likud party is fighting against the challenge of Kahol Lavon. The three judges appointed by the court are Justice Rivkah Friedman-Feldman, who leads the panel, Moshe Bar-Am and Oded Shaham.
Netanyahu has charged that he is innocent of wrongdoing and the three separate charges against him were cooked up by a hostile, politically biased legal system. In the most serious, Case 4000, he is accused of granting regulatory benefits to the telecom magnate Shaul Elovitch to buy favorable coverage in the Wallah news site. After the opening session on March 17, the proceedings are likely to be set for a later date to give Netanyahu’s counsel time to study the material
