New covid cases jump again by 1,838 in 24 hours in 24 hours

The Ministry of Health reported 1,838 new coronavirus cases on Monday and 2.9pc positive tests. The number of active cases hit 13,682 although the critically ill figure remained fairly stable at 332 with 89 on ventilators. The pandemic’ has claimed 2,924 Israeli lives since its outbreak in March. Health experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of the night curfew from Wednesday to Jan. 2 that was imposed Monday night by the coronavirus cabinet to curtail the spread of the virus. They predict that the curfew will not suffice to hold back the rising levels of contagion or allow the country to escape a third full lockdown. It may however be the last full closure once the incoming vaccines start taking effect
