New Iran-based Al Qaeda leader has $10m bounty on his head

A UN report says the high-profile Islamist State terrorist Seif al-Adel is apparently the new “uncontested leader” of Al Qaeda. Confirming this, the US State Department reveals that al-Adel is based in Iran and has placed a $10m on his head. Replacing the late Ayman Zuwaheiri, al-Adel, 62, is a former Egyptian special forces lieutenant colonel and member of the old guard, who helped build the group’s operational capacity. He was to have trained the hijackers who perpetrated the 9/11 attack on the United Staes. He has been in Iran since 2002 – first under house arrest and later free to travel.
