New leader for Somalia’s al-Shabab amid revenge threats
Somalia's al Qaeda-linked militant group al Shabab has named Ahmad Umar as their new leader after former head Ahmed Abdi Godane was killed by US drones and manned aircraft directing Hellfire missiles at a gathering of the terrorist group’s commanders last Monday. Godane was one of the eight top fugitives wanted by the US. Somali’s authorities have placed the country on alert after retaliatory attacks were threatened, also offering Shebab fighters a chance to lay down arms and take advantage of a 34-day amnesty.
