New US 6th Fleet commander makes first stop at Haifa aboard USS New York
“This is my first stop at sea as the new US 6th Fleet commander,” Vice Adm Hames Foggo said when the USS New York amphibious transport dock ship put in at Haifa port – “and I can’t think of a better platform to bring to Israel.” Vice Adm. Foggo led US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro and a group of Israeli Defense Force officers on a “distinguished-visitor” tour of the ship on Jan. 4. The USS New York commanding officer, Capt. Christopher W. Brunett added: “it was a great opportunity to build trust, strengthen ties with our allies and demonstrate the outstanding capabilities of our blue-green team.” The ship sailed out of Haifa Sunday, Jan. 6
