Newcomer Gabay challenges veteran Peretz for Labor lead

Israel’s opposition Labor party holds its second round of voting Monday to choose its next leader: The choice is betgween two candidates: MK Amir Peretz, who has a long track record in elected party and government posts, and Avi Gabay, who has never before run for election. In the first round of voting, Peretz pulled 5 percent ahead of Gabay. The computerized verdict of 52,000 registered party members will be ready to announce by 10 pm Monday night.
