Next Mossad chief and police commissioner appointed

PM Binyamin Netanyahu Tuesday named Deputy Mossad Director “D” as next chief of Israel’sspy organization Mossad to replace Yossi Cohen when he retires next June. The appointment has gone for approval to the Senior Civil Service Appointment Committee headed by Justice Eliezer Goldberg. After that, it goes before the full cabinet.

Public Security Minister Amir Ohana on Tuesday recommended Border Police commander, Maj. Gen. Kobi Shabtai, for the long-vacant post of police commissioner. This appointment was in deep dispute between the coalition partners Likud and Kahol Lavan.
Due to the continuing rift, this week’s cabinet meeting was delayed three times due to  disagreement between the prime minister and alternate prime minister over the agenda. It was finally scheduled for Thursday.
