Haley’s resignation as UN ambassador was planned

Nikki Haley’s resignation as US ambassador to the UN came six months after she informed President Donald Tramp that she would step down at year’s end because she needed a break after eight intense years of public service – six as South Carolina Governor, two at the UN. It was kept secret and therefore a shock to Washington insiders. Accepting her resignation at the Oval Office, Trump talking to reporters commended her for an “incredible job” on major issues such as North Korea and Iran,  getting to know the players and making the post “more glamorous” than ever before. He said he would name her successor in a week or two. Haley said she was proud of her contribution toward making US and its foreign policy respected among world governments during her time as ambassador – even the dissenters – as well as making the world body more efficient and cost-effective. She denied plans to run for office in 2020 and pledged her support for President Trump’s run for a second term.
DEBKAfile: Nikki Haley was a powerful and articular defender of the state of Israel and fought tooth and nail against the world body’s built-in anti-Israel bias. Under her leadership, the US quit UNESCO over its consistent condemnations of Israel.
