Nine US states on emergency for Hurricane Sandy
A state of emergency is declared in nine US states including New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts which are braced for Hurricane Sandy, the worst storm in history ever to strike the East Coast to surge across the Eastern seaboard late Monday or early Tuesday. A population of some 60 million will be affected. Dozens of flights to and from the East Coast are cancelled, including Israel's El Al. Some 375,000 people expect to be evacuated and thousands have already fled the affected area. New York’s subway, train, bus services are suspended ahead of the storm. President Obama is making frequent TV appearances at the helm of emergency operations.
