NKorea ICBM test marked escalation of threat: top US diplomat
The US confirmed late Tuesday that North Korea tested an ICBM earlier in the day. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Pyongyang's action a "new escalation of the threat" and vowed that Washington "will never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea". He said "global action is required to stop a global threat", adding that any country that provides Pyongyang with economic or military benefits, or fails to fully implement Security Council resolutions regarding the North, "is aiding and abetting a dangerous regime".
The North's state-run news agency KCNA quoted the country's leader Kim Jong-un as saying the test was a US independence day "gift" to Washington.
A closed-door session of the UN Security Council regarding the missile test is to be held Wednesday.
