The laconic statement Thursday from Moscow – “The Russian Foreign Ministry confirms willingness to host Netanyahu-Abbas meeting in Moscow, preparations continue” – in no way confirmed that either Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu or Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas had agreed to meet. For that reason, no date was cited in the statement, which seems to be no more than a Russian trial balloon to try and get the high-prestige meeting off the ground in Moscow.
