No sign of Syrian ceasefire scheduled for Friday

A meeting of the international coordinating group, charged by last week’s Munich meeting with implementing a ceasefire in Syria this Friday, was cancelled, according to Moscow, “delayed by a few hours” according to Washington. On the ground, there was no letup in the fighting, as though “a cessation of hostilities” had never been agreed a week earlier at an international conference in Munich. Neither was there any word about the Red Cross convoy that was to have set out Friday from Damascus with food and medicines for the five towns encircled either by combined Russian, Syrian, Iranian and Hizballah forces or the Islamic State.
