All 176 passengers and crew were killed when a Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 jet engine caught fire shortly after takeoff Wednesday from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport and the pilot lost control. Most of the passengers were Iranian students flying to Kiev after the holiday. The Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 was delayed for more than an hour before takeoff. A video posted by Iranian news agency showed a glow flickering around the plane before a large fireball. An airline spokesman suggested a technical fault as the cause of the disaster ahead of an investigation. It occurred hours after Iran launched an attack on two US bases in Iraq.
