No truth in claim of Netanyahu advice to Kerry to go with Putin
DEBKAfile: There is no foundation for the Wall Street Journal report Monday claiming that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu advised Secretary of State John Kerry to go along with the Russian proposal for Assad’s chemical disarmament. According to the paper, Netanyahu said “Russia was not bluffing.”
Our sources confirm that Israel had no knowledge of the Kerry-Putin deal while it was in the making; neither was any advance notice received from Washington. Israeli officials have strongly denied the WSJ report, which was sourced to “senior officials in the US,” and maintain that any scapegoats for the potential failure of the deal should be sought elsewhere.
