NSA eavesdropping on Israeli PM Netanyahu is nothing new

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that President Obama did not include Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu in his list of world leaders that the US does not spy on, and that he ordered the continued monitoring of the discussions between Netanyahu and his senior aides.
According to the newspaper, the prime minister's conversations with members of Congress and leaders of the American Jewish community were also monitored, and during the conversations Netanyahu and his aides leaked secret details of the nuclear negotiations between Iran and Western powers in the beginning of 2015.
DEBKAfile:  Once again, some circles in Washington are trying to drive a wedge between Obama and Netanyahu. For years, the NSA and other US intelligence agencies have regularly eavesdropped on all of the conversations between all Israeli prime ministers and their aides. Even 35 years ago, during Menachem Begin's term at the end of the 1970s, a US vehicle was placed near the Prime Minister's Office to monitor every conversation within the office, not just by telephone.
It is clear that the NSA listens regularly to every conversation by Netanyahu, his aides and the Israeli military and intelligence leadership. It is an open secret.
It is also clear that German Chancellor Angela Merkel does not believe Obama's promise that the monitoring of her conversations has been stopped, and that she and the BND, Germany's foreign intelligence agency, are doing everything possible to neutralize this eavesdropping, just as French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and even Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu are doing.
The only thing that could spark an uproar in Washington is that the NSA eavesdropped on members of Congress and leaders of the American Jewish community, all American citizens.
