Obama and Putin discussed Syria conference by phone

The conversation between Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin Tuesday was described officially as “useful and practical.” DEBKAfile reports that the two leaders discussed the Geneva 2 opening in Montreux Wednesday amid low expectations for a resolution of the Syrian conflict that has claimed an estimated 200,000 lives. They agreed to aim for the limited objective of a ceasefire.
