Obama backs Clinton, presses Sanders to drop out of presidential race
US President Barack Obama expressed support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Thursday, saying in a video released by Clinton's campaign that “I don't think there's ever been someone so qualified to hold this office.” He also said "I am fired up and I cannot wait to get out there and campaign for Hillary."
Earlier in the day, Obama met Clinton's rival Bernie Sanders as Democratic leaders intensified their pressure on the Vermont senator to drop out of the race. Following the meeting, Sanders did not endorse Clinton but said "“I am going to do everything in my power and I will work as hard as I can to make sure that Donald Trump does not become president of the United States.”
Meanwhile, the presumptive Republican nominee Trump said on Twitter that “Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama—but nobody else does!"
