Obama: Without nuclear deal, rockets will rain on Tel Aviv
US President Barack Obama warned a large group of American Jewish leaders he received at the White House Tuesday that if Congress strikes down the Iran nuclear deal, “An American military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities will not end with Iran declaring war on us… Hizballah rockets will rain down on Tel Aviv.”
He went on to say that, while Iran won’t attack the US directly, it could attack American targets across the world, or arm and land proxies on Israel’s borders. Obama said he was willing to meet with prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu to discuss how to increase Israel’s security, “but he won’t meet with me” because “it would be like waving a white flag and Netanyahu wants to keep fighting over the agreement.”
The two-hour meeting, attended also by Vice President Joe Biden, was described by attendees as “serious,” “cordial” and at times “contentious.” Obama was accused of labeling opponents of the nuclear deal warmongers. It was attended by 22 Jewish leaders, including heads of AIPAC, the Anti-Defamation League, the Orthodox Union and the pro-administration J Street.
