The British maritime publication Trade Winds reports that one of the supertankers attacked on Thursday was the Norwegian-owned Front Altair and struck by a torpedo opposite Fujairah port. This is not confirmed by other sources. The second ship came from the UAE emirate of Abu Dhabi. The US Navy is assisting the distressed vessels.
DEBKAfile: A torpedo attack represents a dangerous escalation by Iran, which is capable of provoking a direct clash between US and Iranian warships in the Persian Gulf.
