Pakistan’s parliament nixes military support for Saudi Yemen operation
Saudi Arabia’s high hopes for Pakistan to provide ships, aircraft and troops to boost the Sunni Arab intervention to stem the Iranian-backed Houthi rebel advances in Yemen were dashed Friday, when the Pakistani parliament voted against any such military involvement. The lawmakers in Islamabad called on all sides to resolve their differences peacefully, and urged Pakistan to remain neutral “so as to be able to play a proactive diplomatic role” for ending the Yemen crisis.
