The Israeli security cabinet decided on Sunday to deduct from the funds transferred to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah the equivalent of PA stipends paid out to the families of terrorists – roughly NIS1 million (app $370,000) as of March. Defense Minister Binyamin Netanyahu directed the security services to redouble their investigations into the transfers of funds to Palestinian terrorists and their families. Their findings will henceforth determine the size of deductions. The PA currently pays out around NIS 550 million in monthly wages to Palestinians in Israeli security detention and a similar amount to the families of terrorists who are killed. The security cabinet’s decision enforces the law jointly tabled by Avi Dichter, Likud Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, and Eliezer Stern, opposition Lapid party MK. They calculated that a total of four billion shekels (more that a billion dollars) had been paid out to Palestinian terrorists in the past four years.
