Palestinian axe attack perpetrator caught by Israeli security forces
In a predawn operation on Sunday, Israeli security forces captured the Palestinian who attacked an Israeli security guard with an axe at a mall in the city of Maale Adumim late Thursday night. The terrorist was identified as a 21-year-old who worked at the mall. The victim sustained very serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
Palestinians have been barred from entering Maaleh Adumim until March 3 in the aftermath of the terrorist attack. The 3,000 Palestinians employed at an industrial zone adjacent to the city, however, will be allowed to reach their places of work.
DEBKAfile's counterterrorism sources reported Saturday night that it was assumed that the terrorist came from the Palestinian town of Azaria west of Maale Adumim on the road to Jerusalem. IDF and border police reinforcements were brought to the city during the day.
