Parole board grants Moshe Katzav’s plea for early release

The parole board announced Sunday a decision to shorten the seven-year jail sentence to whcih former president Moshe Katzav was sentenced for rape and other sex crimes. He therefore goes free after spending five years behind bars.. The board overruled the state prosecution which argued that Katzav had not so far shown real repentance for his crimes or acknowledged his guilt – and therefore had no claim to clemency.
