Parole board turns town ex-president Katzav’s request for early release
An Israeli parole board turned down a request by the country's former president, Moshe Katzav, to be granted an early release from prison on Wednesday, ruling that he must serve the remaining part of his sentence for rape, obstruction of justice and other charges. He has already served two thirds of the sentence.
In its decision, the board said that the ex-president considers himself a victim and blames others for his current condition, while only focusing on his personal needs and the price paid by his family, and has not expressed regret or empathy to the victims of his crimes.
