Pentagon: Truman carrier may stay in Mediterranean to check Russia

The carrier group is at present cruising opposite the Syrian coast.  Defense Department officials said the Truman’s presence would respond to “increasingly assertive Russian activities in the region” and deter Damascus against using chemical weapons.
