Police chief replaces Tel Aviv commander in major reshuffle
Israel Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh announced Thursday the appointment of new commanders for all six of the police's territorial districts. The new commanders are: Deputy Commissioner Yoram Helevy for the Jerusalem District, Deputy Commissioner Amos Yaakov for the Central District, Deputy Commissioner David Beitan for the Southern district; Deputy Commissioner Moshe (Chico) Edry for the Tel Aviv district; and Alon Asur and Moshe Barkat, who will both be promoted from assistant commissioner to deputy commissioner, with Asur taking command of the Northern District and Barkat, the Judea and Samaria District.
In additional appointments, both Alon Levavi and Yaakov Shabtai will be promoted from assistant commissioner to deputy commissioner, with Levavi to lead the Operations Branch and Shabtai to command the Border Police. Commissioner Alsheikh has also decided to bring in two senior officers from outside the organization. IDF Brigadier General Zvi Tessler will be given the rank of deputy commissioner and take command of the Planning and Organization Division, while a senior official from the Shin Bet internal security service, whose name has yet to be released, is to be awarded the rank of deputy commissioner and take command of the Support and Logistics Division.
