Police detonate two fake backpacks at Boston Marathon memorial
Two loud bangs rang out Tuesday night near the Boston Marathon finish line – an eerie reminder of the terror attacks exactly one year before. This time, they were caused by controlled detonations carried out by the city’s bomb squad after a barefoot man shrouded in black and yelling “Boston Strong!” ditched two backpacks near the Marathon finish line site, where last year, backpacks containing rice cookers exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 260. The man identified as Kayvon Edson was quickly taken into custody and charged with possession of a hoax device. The area was cleared for several hours.
