Police heavily reinforced in Jerusalem for Rosh Hashana

Reinforced Jerusalem police and border guard units are patrolling shopping centers, markets, the eastern suburbs and the Old City Sunday, Rosh Hashana eve, in response to intelligence warnings of extensive Palestinian preparations for mass Islamist demonstrations. Special guards are also stationed at the Western Wall and its approaches to protect worshippers during the two-day New Year festival beginning Sunday night.
Throughout the week, police units prevented protesters reaching the US consulate in Jerusalem, although small groups of Palestinian Muslims demonstrated quietly at the US embassy in Tel Aviv.
