Police shoot gunman who killed six in Santa Monica rampage

The rampage began east of Santa Monica College Friday with a house fire, a carjacking and shootings in the area. The bodies of two people were discovered at the fire scene and four more bodies at two other locations, culminating with the police shooting the gunman dead in the college library. Several people were injured and a “person of interest” taken into custody.
The incident unfolded some 5 kilometers from where President Barack Obama was attending a political fundraiser. He completed his speech and left for his two-day Palm Springs summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Secret Police called the shootings a “local police matter.”

The gunman, who was not immediately identified, was described as white or Latino with curly hair and 20 to 30 years old. Witnesses said he wore body armor and a helmet and brandished a military-style assault rifle, a shotgun, a handgun and an ammunition belt. The back of his black sweatshirt read "Life is a Gamble."
