Pompeo on secret trip to US Ain al Assad Airbase in Iraq
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived at the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Iraq’s Anbar province on Saturday, according to the Iraqi Kurdistan Rudaw TV. DEBKAfile reports that Pompeo came from consultations in Washington on how to respond to the pro-Iranian militia rocket attack a day earlier on the US K-1 base near Kirkuk. An American civilian was killed in that attack and 4 US soldiers injured. Security has since been boosted substantially at the Al-Assad base. There has been no word on the potential American response to the attack.
