Pompeo to address US Republican Convention from Jerusalem

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will address the Republican National Convention opening session Monday night from Jerusalem after holding talks with Israeli leaders. He and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly discussed the normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. They also referred to  potential sale of F-35 fighter jets to the UAE for its self-defense against the Islamic Republic of Iran, while at the same time reiterating the enduring US commitment to maintaining Israel’s “qualitative military edge.”
As well as pursuing the drive for deepening Israel’s ties in the region, Pompeo raised the question of “protecting the US and Israel economies from “malign investors” (China). Pompeo later met with Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gaby Ashkenazi. His travel plans take the secretary of state next to Sudan, the UAE and Bahrain.
