Pompeo to expose new intel on Iran’s ties to Al Qaeda

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans later on Tuesday to expose newly-declassified intelligence to publicly denounce Iran’s ties to al Qaeda. Before his speech to the National Press Club in Washington, Pompeo reportedly conferred with Israel’s Mossad chief Yossi Cohen. With just eight days to go for the Trump administration, the Secretary is expected to outline how Iran has granted al Qaeda leaders safe haven and support.

The New York Times reported in November that Abu Muhammad al-Masri, accused of helping to mastermind the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa, was gunned down by Israeli operatives in Iran. Iran denied the report, saying there were no al Qaeda “terrorists” on its soil.
