Pope Francis inserts a note in a crack of the Western Wall
On the third and last day of his Holy Land pilgrimage, Monday, Pope Francis inserted a note in a crack of the Western Wall with a prayer. He was welcomed to the site of the last relic of the Jewish Temples by Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Chief Rabbi of Holy Places. First, he toured Temple Mount and the mosques under the guidance of the Mufti of Jerusalem Mohammed Hussein and the Jordanian Prince Ghazi. He used that opportunity to call on all religions “to work together for justice and peace.” The Mufti complained about Jewish “extremists” forcing their way onto Temple Mount which, he said, is sacred to Muslims and Christians.
The pope spends the rest of the day laying a wreath at the tomb of Theodor Herzl, founder of Zionism, and visiting Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial. His last engagement is a Mass at the Room of the Last Supper, which is located over David’s Tomb on Mt. Zion, Jerusalem. He flies home to the Vatican Monday night.
