Power blackout hits half of India, 620 million people

Power failures Tuesday affected 20 of India’s 28 states, from its border with Myanmar to Pakistan, stalled hundreds of trains, causing traffic jams in the capital, New Delhi, as traffic lights went out, and trapped miners underground. Power Minister Sushi Kumar Shinde said the crisis was the result of “everyone overdrawing from the grid.”
