President presses for unity government at inaugural Knesset session

The lawmakers elected and re-elected in the Sept 17 general election took their seats at the Knesset inaugural session on Thursday and were sworn in. President Reuven Rivlin opened the session with an impassioned plea for the main parties to joint hands and set up a broad unity government to confront the grave challenges facing the country, Speaker Yuli Edelstein called on Likud leader PM Binyamin Netanyahu and Kachol Lavan’s Benny Gantz to meet without delay, after Gantz earlier called off a scheduled conversation with the prime minister. The 13 Arab MKs were absent as part of their protest against the rising violence within their community.

    Politics and personal opinion of self, . . . will never see those who differ, shake hands and work together. It is sad, . . . but the people who indulge in politics are generally only out for what it will do for them personally.
