President Rivlin launches consultations for new government

President Reuven Rivlin begins consultations with delegations from the various parties elected in Israel’s general election on April 9. This is a formal process for canvassing their views on which party leader has the best chance of forming Israel’s next coalition government. Rivlin starts the round on Monday with the largest party Likud, followed by Blue-White. The candidate chosen by the president has 28 days under Israel’s basic law to complete the assignment, with an extra two weeks added on if needed.
