Prickly Flag Parade decision shunted over to next government

The security cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to approve the delayed Jerusalem Day Flag March through the Old City of Jerusalem but postpone it from Thursday “out of safety concerns” raised by the police, to next Tuesday. PM Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Ministry Benny Gantz agreed therefore to dump the hot potato decision regarding the route and format of the annual event into the laps of the next government, which is due to be sworn in on Sunday, June 13. The police objected to the parade entering through Damascus Gate and passing through the Moslem Quarter, but would likely accept entry through Jaffa Gate. The decision to postpone the event was widely criticized as capitulating to Hamas threats.
