Primary confirms Netanyahu as Likud leader

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was safely returned to the leadership of the Likud at the party primary held Wednesday ahead of the March 17 general election.

Roughly 55 percent of the Likud's 96,651 registered voters cast three ballots on Wednesday: one for party leader, one for its Knesset slate, and one to grant Netanyahu the discretion to choose two candidates for safe seats. Netanyahu’s loyalists reached the top 10 slots, barring Miri Reg who has spoken against the prime minister’s policies. The latest opinion polls assign Likud 24 seats out of 120 in the next Knesset (up from the current 18). This slate emerged from the count of 90 percent of the ballots:

1. Binyamin Netanyahu
2.  Gilad Erdan.
3. Yuli Edelstein
4. Yisrael Katz
5. Miri Regev
6. Silvan Shalom
7. Moshe Yaalon
8. Zeev Elkin
9. Tzachi HaNegbi
10. Danny Danon
