Putin, British PM May talk by phone, agree on joint counterterror efforts

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday spoke by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since she assumed her post. The two leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of relations between their countries and promised to maintain an open channel of communication despite the differences between London and Moscow. A spokeswoman for the British government said the conversation focused on cooperation on aviation security as part of the fight against terror, and on the tightening of cooperation between the intelligence services of the two countries. She added that the two leaders agreed to meet during the G20 summit in China next month.
