Putin: Russia’s Syria expedition tested its army’s professionalism
In a rare public statement on Russian operations in Syria, President Vladimir Putin said on Friday: “The operations against terrorist gangs in Syria was a serous test of the professionalism of our armed forces.” This experience will be used to improve the Russian military for future service, he said during a session of the Security Council in Moscow. He went on to report that since Russia’s intervention in the Syrian civil war, “about 90 percent of the territory was liberated from terrorists” – his customary label for all Syrian rebels.
