Putin’s special envoy lies: We achieved Iranian pullout to 85km from Israeli border

Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev told the Russian Sputnik News on Wednesday, “Of course we take into account the interests of neighboring states, interests of Israel, our president spoke about that. We managed to attain the pullout of Iranian units 85km from the Israeli border.” This claim has no substance in fact, DEBKAfile reports. It was even belied the day before by another Russian diplomat, Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov, who stated in Tel Aviv that his country cannot remove Iranian forces from Syria any more than it can prevent Israel from attacking them.  Both Russian diplomats must know, as well as DEBKAfile’s military sources, that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) are sitting in command posts at Khan Arnaba and Kfar Hader just 10km from the Israeli border, while Shiite militias under Hizballah command have come even closer, only 500m from Israel’s Golan border. They stand facing Tel Fares in the north, and opposite IDF Hermon positions in the north.
