Qatar allots $15bn for saving Turkish currency
The Qatari emir Tamim Bin Hamas al-Thani has pitched in to rescue his ally Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan from the consequences of the disastrous US sanctions. On Sunday, the emirate’s central bank signed a contract to pump $15bn into the Turkish system to shore up its drowning currency and Ankara’s plunging international credit rating. The Qatari funds were made available in return for the military umbrella Turkey is providing the emirate in its feud with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE.
