Riyadh warns Trump against halting oil imports

Saudi Arabian energy minister Khalid al-Falih has called on US President-elect Donald Trump not to stop oil imports from his country. In an interview with the Financial Times on Tuesday, al-Falih said Trump should achieve the energy-related goals that he outlined in his campaign speeches, namely halting dependence on foreign energy sources, without limiting imports. The minister asserted that the US "benefits more than anybody else from global free trade," referring to its recent spike in natural gas and oil product exports. The US receives 31 percent of its oil from OPEC member states, 40 percent from Canada and the rest from domestic production.
